Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcers merupakan infeksi yang paling sering terjadi dan sering dijumpai bersamaan dengan hiperglikemia. Sekitar 15% penderita diabetes mellitus harus diamputasi karena infeksi diabetic foot ulcers oleh karena itu diperlukan perawatan pada diabetic foot ulcers guna mencegah terjadinya penyebaran infeksi. Salah satu upaya dalam perawatan diabetic foot ulcers guna mencegah penyebaran infeksi yaitu menggunakan madu. Kajian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi literatur, penelitian dan praktik terkini dalam mengelola diabetic foot ulcers dengan fokus khusus penggunaan madu dalam merawat luka dengan metode telaah literatur. Database yang digunakan adalah Google Scholar, PubMed, ProQuest, ERIC, Gale Cengage, EBSCOhost menggunakan kata kunci “honey” dan “diabetic foot ulcers” untuk bahasa Inggris serta “madu” dan “luka kaki diabetik” untuk bahasa Indonesia. Dalam pencarian didapatkan 9 artikel yang memenuhi kriteria. Dari seluruh telaah literatur, bahwa madu efektif digunakan dalam penyembuhan diabetic foot ulcers melalui berbagai mekanisme yang terkandung dalam madu yaitu hidrogen peroksida, flavonoid, enzim katalase, enzim glukosa oksidase, asam glukonat, konsentrasi gula hipertonik, MRJP dan kandungan pH yang berkisar dari 3,5-4,5. Kesimpulannya adalah madu mempunyai sifat antibakteri dan merangsang pertumbuhan jaringan baru dengan waktu pemberian intervensi bervariasi dalam penyembuhan diabetic foot ulcers. Dari seluruh literatur yang ditelaah, tidak ditemukan penelitian terhadap diabetic foot ulcers grade 3 dan grade 4, serta tidak ada penjelasan mengapa penelitian tersebut hanya pada grade 1 dan grade 2 saja. Dengan demikian dirasakan perlu lakukan penelitian lanjutan terhadap diabetic foot ulcers grade 3 dan grade 4 untuk melihat apakah ada penurunan grading pada luka serta membutuhkan waktu berapa lama dalam menurunkan grading tersebut
